Upstate History in Women's History: Women's Suffrage Series

  • Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum 717 Lakeport Road Chittenango, NY, 13037 United States (map)

Join Chittenango Landing and Mary Beth Miller of the Chenango Arts Council as we celebrate the upcoming centennial of women's rights to vote nationally while displaying New York Heritage's temporary exhibit on the women's suffrage movement.

Miller's talk "Upstate History in Women's History" is highlighting the special place Upstate New York holds in our nation's history as not only the birthplace of the Women's Suffrage Movement, but also the home of many noted reformers. Learn how this distinction also made literary history. The Wizard of Oz and its sequels were all heavily influenced by support for equal rights, and the first woman-led newspaper is from Upstate too. You'll also discover many travel destinations throughout the region to learn more about upstate history.
