Topic: How Clean is the Water in the Erie Canal?
Dr Mark Teece is a professor of environmental chemistry at SUNY-ESF. Dr Teece’s research focuses on water quality in lakes and oceans. He is particularly interested in the impact of human activities on water quality.
Dr Teece will be discussing the history of the water quality of the Erie Canal and the current water conditions. He will talk about the sources of water to the Erie Canal and the issues surrounding those water sources. He will also discuss the unique characteristics of living in colder climates and the impact of human activities such as winter road salt on the water quality of rivers and creeks feeding water to the Erie Canal.
